Course Description

General Studies AS/A2 Level - Two-year course The General Studies course helps students to broaden their Advanced Level programme. It covers contemporary issues: tensions in society; terrorism; religious and class differences; global warming; art and architecture; controversy in science; the power of advertising and many others. It cuts across the arts-science divide. Students gain knowledge, awareness and understanding of topics relevant to the world in which we live. The General Studies course will also help students to gain the Key Skills qualification. Students are expected to contribute to discussions during lessons and in turn develop their communication skills. Assessment of each of the four A Level units is by written examination. Careers and Further Studies Awareness of a wide range of current issues is useful when attending interviews for employment and Higher Education. This subject can also contribute points for both Higher Education entry and for employment. Evidence shows that total A Level points is one measure used by firms in selecting new employees. Many universities accept General Studies both as a main A Level and as a general contributor to make up UCAS points.
