Course Description

Is this course for me? This course is suitable for people who are not working and would like to gain a qualification in the building industry but do not have access to the work experience necessary for a full NVQ. Construction awards can be upgraded into full NVQs when you become employed. What will I study? This course consists of practical and theoretical study. The programme is offered as a continuation from the Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying Subjects: Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction Carry out safe working practices in construction Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others Information, quantities and communicating with others 2 Knowledge of building methods and construction technology 2 Building methods and construction technology 2 Know how to interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures Knowledge of thin joint masonry and masonry cladding Thin joint masonry and masonry cladding Know how to build solid walling, isolated and attached piers Build solid walling, isolated and attached piers Know how to build cavity walling forming masonry structures Build cavity walling forming masonry structures A practical assignment What are the entry requirements? You will need to have achieved the Construction Foundation Award or Bricklaying NVQ Level 1. How will I be assessed? Assessment is on practical skills and theoretical knowledge, including short tests, subject assignments and completion of work-based evidence books. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and to discuss progress. What can I do next? This can lead to Bricklaying NVQ Level 2 (site work), or Bricklaying NVQ Level 3 and can lead to employment in the building industry. What will it cost? If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply. Course fee: ?1350 Exam fee: ?100 Please note: For courses of more than one year, the fees stated apply to the first year only. These costs are for the academic year 2009-2010. Costs for 2010-2011 will be available in spring 2010.
