ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage Devon Academy is an ITEC registerred college with an established record of 100% pass rate in the ITEC holistic massage examinations with students acheiving an overall credit or distinction since 2005. Holistic Massage is one of the oldest healing arts, treating the mind, body and spirit. An ancient art dating back to Chinese dynasties, when placed in the hands of a well qualified therapist with a thorough understanding of Anatomy and Physiology can treat many physical and emotional conditions. It is an ITEC requirement that students hold a recognized Anatomy and Physiology diploma therefore all students without this qualification must take all three parts of the course and prepare to devote 5 hours per week minimum to home learning. If you already hold an ITEC A & P certificate or an acceptable equivalent, (please confirm this with ITEC direct prior to enrolment) then you will study the first two parts of the course at a reduced course fee. Certificates must be produced on enrolment along with ITEC APL confirmation. The course is divided into three parts: Holistic Massage theory and practical Business Awareness and Professional Conduct Anatomy and Physiology Massage Practical Full body massage technique (inc head, face and neck) Performance and understanding of massage movements. Adaptation of technique to suit client individual needs. Supervised student practice on each other and members of the public. Individual tuition for maximum of 6 students at any one time. Demonstration and practise of correct hygiene procedures. Demonstration and practise of correct towel technique and client care. Recognition and adaptation of contraindications Knowledge and understanding of musculature Please be aware that students learn by not only giving, but also receiving massage and are expected to participate in both aspects of the course. Massage Theory: Holistic approach and Integral biology. History and development of Swedish massage. Psychological, physiological effects of massage. Consultation, medical history, lifestyle, after care. Professional ethics, hygiene procedures. Client care, questioning techniques, feedback. Other Complementary Therapies. Benefits and contraindications of massage. Consent to treatment, GP, parent, carer consent First Aid emergencies in the clinic 20 Case Studies 5 clients, four treatments each with written assessments Practical Examination - 45 minute treatment Theory Examination - One hour - 50 multiple choice questions Anatomy and Physiology Syllabus- Skeletal System Muscular System Skin or Integumental System Circulatory System Lymphatic System Cells and Tissues Endocrine System Nervous System Respiratory System Digestive System Urinary System Reproductive System Aim of the course: It is vital that students have a thorough understanding of the all body systems and disorders in order to study complementary therapies. You will be required to draw and label at least one picture for each system. Theory Examination - One hour - 50 Multiple choice questions Student course files must be presented to the examiner for review!
