Course Description

Spend a semester in London and another in Paris as you study this vocationally and ethically focused master’s degree. You will gain a solid foundation in areas of law practiced in international and City law firms.

This innovative Master’s degree covers EU law plus cutting edge contemporary legal trade issues in the post-Brexit world. It will provide you with a detailed understanding of the complexities of international trade and business law.

St Mary’s offers you a very supportive teaching team with additional input from expert practitioners. We take pride in our reputation as a friendly university with a community-feel, just 30 minutes from central London.

Our partnership with ICP, Paris provides you with a fantastic opportunity to study in Paris for one semester. Teaching is in English, but if you would like to develop or brush up your French language skills, St Mary's also offers French language short courses that can help prepare you for your semester in Paris.

The collaboration between ICP and St Mary’s offers you a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural learning, increasing your understanding of the English, French and EU legal systems. Academics from both institutions will teach at the other sharing specialist knowledge of their own legal system and discipline areas.

If you have not studied either English or French law before, don’t worry, the course has been designed to ensure you will receive the support and guidance to study these successfully.

  • Opportunity to spend your second semester in Paris and receive an additional qualification
  • Comprehensive analysis of post-Brexit trade issues
  • Key coverage of cutting-edge international business law issues
  • Immersion in common law and civil law approaches
  • Taught on our Twickenham campus with direct public transport to central London and ICP in central Paris

Ethics forms an important part of the programme’s content; in particular, jurisprudential questions about how legal systems should co-operate in the regulation of international business, trade and finance. You will also be challenged to think how globalisation effects the practice of law and the provision of legal services across borders and in multiple jurisdictions.

The impact of Brexit on trade, finance and international business will be included throughout the degree. Identified complex issues will form part of your independent research project.
