Installing Domestic Solar Hot Water Heating Systems (BPEC) What you will study Candidates will gain the confidence to select, install and maintain domestic solar hot water heating systems. Through the delivery of 8 modules and practical experience on purpose built indoor rigs you will develop skills and theory with a qualified BPEC trainer. Module 1: Introduction to domestic solar hot water Module 2: Solar collectors Module 3: Hot water storage and installation bases Module 4: Preparing to install a solar hot water system Module 5: Fitting of solar collectors Module 6: Plumbing layout Module 7: Control and power requirements Module 8: System commissioning Who the course is for This course is aimed at plumbers and heating engineers who are after knowledge and skills of solar hot water system installation leading to the BPEC ??-Installers Certificate?? . However, the course also allows non-installers the chance to gain good knowledge of theory, principles and good practice of solar domestic hot water heating leading to a BPEC ??-Awareness Certificate?? . How you will study The course is delivered in the college?? s ??-Sustainability and Renewable Energy Centre?? based at Rhyl. The centre houses purpose built indoor rigs and classroom. A qualified BPEC trainer will take you through the professional BPEC course material giving you the chance to ask questions throughout and gain valuable knowledge in the modules above. The course is delivered over 2 days with day 3 available for Assessment. Candidates who do not have the ??-Unvented Hot Water Storage (UHWS)?? certificate will be given the chance to sit the assessment* on the morning of Day 3. If they are successful in passing the UDHW certificate they can proceed to the ??-Installer Certificate?? assessment in the afternoon. The lack of this certificate will lead to an assessment for the ??-Awareness Certificate?? . * there is an additional fee to cover the cost of the BPEC Manual for UHWS. How you will be assessed An open book, multiple choice paper with 45 questions must be successfully completed to gain a certificate. The ??-Installer Certificate*?? or ??-Awareness Certificate?? will be awarded on successful completion of the assessment. *The ??-Unvented Domestic Hot Water?? certificate must be completed before this assessment is taken. Qualification Title Depending on your level of experience and the successful completion of the assessment, a BPEC Installer Certificate or Awareness Certificate will be awarded. Course Length Three days. Course Availability The course is available at the following campus(es): Rhyl Entry Guidelines The following extract is taken from the BPEC entry requirements: Installer Certificate To be accepted for assessment an individual MUST now be able to present copies of certificates of appropriate trade qualifications or evidence that they have a number of years of experience of working within the industry, a minimum of 2 years. In addition they MUST also hold a certificate of competence in the installation of unvented domestic hot water cylinders or be undertaking training and assessment for an unvented certificate as part of, or in addition to, the solar hot water programme. Awareness Certificate This requirement does not mean that non-skilled individuals who need to have an understanding of the installation of solar thermal hot water systems such as, architects, specifiers, etc, cannot attend the training, it simply means that as unskilled people they are not allowed to obtain a certificate of competence in the installation of the systems and equipment they are not entitled to by undertaking an assessment which is designed to add to qualifications already held by qualified operatives.
