Course Description

Bath Spa has a long tradition of initial teacher education, and programmes are planned and taught in close collaboration with teachers in schools. Each year Bath Spa University recruit a diverse group of around 500 candidates to our wide variety of programmes in initial teacher education leading to the award of either a Postgraduate or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Primary and Early Years: These are one-year full-time or 20 month part-time programmes that will qualify you to teach either the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. There are two routes to choose from: - Primary and Early Years (3-7 years) ? full or part-time - Primary and Early Years (5-11 years) ? full-time only Key Stage 23: These are one-year full-time programmes that will qualify you to teach in Key Stage 2 (7-11 years) and Key Stage 3 (11-14 years). These programmes are ideal if you wish to have the option of teaching in a secondary school or as a fully qualified primary teacher with a subject specialism. Subjects available are: - Mathematics - Modern Languages - Science Secondary: These are one year full-time programmes that will qualify you to teach your specialist subject in Key Stage 3 (11-14 years) and Key Stage 4 (14-16 years). There are opportunities to undertake post-16 enhancement work, enabling you to teach up to A-level. Subjects available are: - Art & Design - Design and Technology - English - Information and Communications Technology - Mathematics - Modern Languages - Music - Physical Education - Religious Education - Science Enhancement Courses: Subject knowledge enhancement courses are designed for graduates who are interested in teaching a secondary subject but who may not necessarily have a degree in that subject. They vary in length depending on the subject and run prior to the initial teacher education programme. Subjects available are: - Design & Technology - ICT - Mathematics - Modern Languages - Physics - Science
