Course Description

This innovative course, one of the first of its kind in the UK, will examine the changing international and global context of security and governance in order to provide students with a thorough grounding in the social, political and economic aspects of the Homeland Security agenda, and its importance to the debates around terrorism and globalisation. The programme is comparative in its approach and seeks to draw upon insights and best practice from around the world. The programme makes a particular point of seeking to understand how the new United States Department of Homeland Security operates and how British and European efforts compare. The course will also afford overseas students the opportunity to compare their own national arrangements with these recent developments in the USA, the UK and other EU countries.
