Construction HNC in Construction Technology and Management (Production) and Foundation Degree in Construction Science Course Description This programme of study has been developed in conjunction with the University of Glamorgan. It enables learners who do not have the opportunity to study via traditional day-release programmes to further their qualifications by studying for a HNC in Construction Technology and Management/FD in Construction Science either on an evening only attendance basis or part-time day and evening mode (subject to demand). The courses offer a range of modules designed to equip industrial practitioners with both the academic knowledge and the practical skills required by professionals and technicians in the construction industry. Areas of study may include the following: Built Environment Economics Construction Technology 1 Built Environmental Law Materials and Science Project Practice Personal Development and Planning Surveying & Measuring of Buildings Construction Technology 2 Professional Practice 1 Independent Study Production Management Project and Development Practices Tendering and Estimating Work-based Learning Career Prospects This programme of study has been developed for individuals wishing to enhance their career prospects in the construction industry, either by direct employment at higher technician level or via Foundation Degree and Degree Studies (Honours) in Construction Management. Pathways exist in both design and production. The goal is for the candidates to progress (with further study) to an Honours Degree at the University of Glamorgan and subsequently become Corporate Members of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB); Association of Building Engineers; Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists; IMBM; ABE; etc. dependent upon industrial experience and vocational bias. Study Mode Part-time Campus Neath Course Length HNC 2 years part-time (2 evenings per week) Foundation Degree a further 2 years part-time (evening only) or shorter, if studied via a part-time day and evening pattern. (A day attendance mode is available, only subject tosufficient demand). An element of Course Time Please Call to Discuss Partnership University of Glamorgan Assesment This takes the form of in-course assignments and end tests/examinations as appropriate to each module. Successful completion of the award is determined by the achievement of the required academic credits in appropriate modules leading to the HNC or Foundation Degree.
