HNC Engineering Systems Course Details Higher National Certificate Begins August, lasts 1 year About this course Do you have what it takes to enter the engineering industry? These courses are as much for those new to the field as they are for those who want to update and modernise their qualifications and skills. You'll study a wide range of engineering systems, from mechanical and smart systems engineering to oil and gas technologies. These courses are designed to turn you into a multi-skilled, electro-mechanical technician or supervisor. They integrate the basic principles of materials, energy, electricity and dynamics with real engineering situations, so you'll be ready for the growing field of engineering, regardless of the specialist area you'll eventually choose. You study The HNC introduces and explores simple and complex systems. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the second year introduces new technologies and prepares you to work within a multi-skilled engineering team. You'll study general engineering topics, and then move onto a variety of specialised engineering subjects in mechanical, control, smart systems and oil and gas engineering. Topics include: pneumatics and hydraulics; thermo fluids; interfacing electronics; electronic testing skills; application of programmable logic controllers; electrical safety; fundamentals of control systems and transducers. Careers and Training The HNC/HND prepares you for a variety of jobs in engineering, including manufacturing, offshore engineering and engineering design. If you specialise in oil and gas you may be able to get an interview with a range of employers through our engineering partnerships with other Tayside colleges. Practical Skills Computer Aided Draughting For Engineers Communication Drawing Measurement And System Monitoring Practical Skills IT Materials Selection Mechanical And Manufacturing Pneumatics And Hydraulics Quality Management Requirement You can progress to the HNC with NC units in Engineering or can come straight on to the HNC with a Higher. You can progress to the HND with a variety of HNC Engineering subjects, including an HNC in Engineering Systems. Getting more You enter at HNC level in your first year, and can progress automatically on to HND Engineering Systems. You can then go on to a variety of UHI Millennium Institute engineering scheme degrees. Careers and Training
