HNC Aircraft Engineering Course Details Higher National Certificate Begins August, lasts 1 year About this course Ideal for those wishing to start a career in aircraft maintenance engineering, these courses cover practical mechanical and avionic engineering and maintenance. The HNC is closely matched to the EASA IR (European Aviation Safety Agency, Instructions and Regulations) Part 66 syllabus. Practical content is carried out at Air Service Training (Scone) with classroom-based activity on the Perth College UHI campus. In Year 2 you will extend your knowledge and skills and carry out an aeronautical project. Past projects have looked at Concorde's aerodynamics; turbo technology and innovation in aircraft and navigation systems. The HND also prepares you for our BSc Aircraft Engineering and BEng Honours Aircraft Engineering. You study Year 1 looks at aircraft propulsion systems; aircraft structures; maths and physics for aviation and aerodynamics. In Year 2 (HND) you will add to your knowledge by studying aircraft electrical power systems; avionics; aircraft flight controls; aircraft hydraulic systems; aircraft ground operations; DC motors; thermo fluids and assembly and workshop skills. Getting started You can come straight on to the programme with a Higher in Mathematics, English or Science (for HNC) or 2 Highers and 2 Standard Grades in Mathematics and Science (for HND). You can also progress to this course with NQ units in Aeronautical Engineering. If you don' t meet our entry requirements, your previous experience and credentials may still qualify you for this course. Please arrange an appointment with a member of College staff to discuss your eligibility. Getting more Progression at Perth College UHI You can enter the HNC or HND in your first year. The HNC should allow you to progress to the HND, which should provide entry to years 3 and 4 of a degree right here at Perth College UHI. Careers and Training The HND can allow you to continue your studies at Year 2 or 3 on degree programmes at a variety of Universities. If you decide not to progress to a BSc you can still sit exams at a reduced rate, with the possibility of finding work as a technician within the commercial airline industry.
