Course Description

Higher National Certificate in Applied Animal Science in association with University of Kent Content: This is a vocational programme aimed at people already working in a related area. It covers a broad range of issues and principles that are key to animal science across a very wide sector including companion animals, conservation, animal husbandry and wildlife. You will be taught through a mixture of lectures, seminars, group projects and tutorials. There will also be a significant amount of practical work, developing skills both in the laboratory and in the field, often in real situations. All tutors have a wealth of experience and qualifications related to animal science. As part of your studies you will experience and complete an individual research project. Includes: Animal Welfare Applications of Animal Science Anatomy and Histology Animal Health and Disease Animal Nutrition Genetics and Animal Breeding Animal Husbandry Introduction to Conservation and Ecology Principles of Microbiology Animal Nursing Duration: 10 modules over a two year period, on a part time basis. Entry Requirements: At least one GCSE in a science, preferably biology. 1 A Level National Diploma or equivalent. Applications are welcomed from adults with relevant experience. Applicants will normally be interviewed. Assessment: Assessment is by a mixture of coursework and practical assignments. Progression: On completion you will have the skills and knowledge to further your career in the animal science sector. You may also wish to convert your HNC to an HND by taking a further six modules. Additional information: A number of trips and activities are organised each year to complement classes, which students will have to pay for.
