AMSPAR Certificate Health Service Administration Course Overview This 30-hour Programme is based on the main roles and responsibilities of a medical administrator. Candidates undertaking this course will gain, and be able to apply, knowledge of the structure and functions of the statutory and voluntary health and social services to enable them to work effectively as an administrator within the health care field. It will enable them to understand the working relationships between different sections and departments of the statutory and voluntary services, and to work as part of the health care team. What will I study? Candidates will be able to apply skills for effective communication with patients and members of the health service team and develop knowledge and understanding of Primary and Secondary care procedures. The Programme also aims to develop an understanding of health and safety in the workplace and its impact on the working environment, particularly with regard to hazards relating to the medical field. Modules can include Self-Development Understand the benefits of self-development and how appraisal supports this process Composition and roles of the multi-disciplinary team Study the composition and roles of the multi-disciplinary team, its core members, and the role of the administrator within the team. Appreciate the importance of team dynamics and team roles Principles of Effective Communication Develop knowledge and understanding of the importance of effective communication in the workplace, exploring formal and informal networks. Understand the use of feedback to check effectiveness The rights of patients Develop understanding of patient choice and access to health care professionals and health records Health and Safety Increase awareness and understanding of Health and Safety legislation, including COSHH regulations and infection control mechanisms Course Requirements The Programme has been designed for practicing Primary and Secondary Care Receptionists and Administrators. It is desirable that candidates will have been in post for at least six months, prior to commencement of the course, as some elements require a level of work experience. Progression This course of study will provide candidates with practical and personal skills to enable them to develop and progress as an administrator within the health care sector and will create a pathway to further study, including, with relevant work experience, the AMSPAR Diploma in Primary Care Management Validated by AMSPAR Duration 30 hours over five full days (Thursdays) at fortnightly intervals - 9.30 am - 4.30 pm.
