Health and Social Care - BTEC Introductory - Diplomas What are the main features of this course? This one year course is made up of 8 units: starting work in Health and Social Care, Working in Health and Social Care, Personal Care Needs, Personal Effectiveness and Social Responsibilities, Looking after Children, Images of People and Mapping Local Services. The course gives a broad understanding of Health and Social Care as well as the opportunity to apply learning in a practical and realistic way. A block of work experience is integrated into the programme to develop appropriate skills and experiences. Communication and Numeracy are developed throughout the programme. Hours of Lessons per Week :15 Indicative Group Size : 15 How is the course assessed? The course is assessed through the completion of assignments. There is one assignment per unit, two of which are assessed externally and six are assessed by college tutors. Each unit is given an individual grade of pass, merit or distinction. Who should study this course? The course is suitable for those students who have a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in Health and Social Care, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate their ideas effectively. It is suitable for students who have left school probably without formal qualifications but with a good R.O.ASchool report. Where can I go next? On successful completion of the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health & Social Care course and with two merit grades from the 60 hour units, progression is possible to the BTEC First Diploma in Childrens Care Learning and Development, BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care or some type of training or employment.
