Course Description

Health & Social Care Level 4 is for individuals with specific leadership or management roles. It is appropriate for managers, deputy managers and project leaders. Again, there are two versions, undertaken according to your sector: Health & Social Care: Adults Health & Social Care: Children and Young People This course lasts 11-12 months and takes the form of a focused taught programme in seminar groups of candidates from a range of different establishments. Since Level 4 candidates tend not to have a peer group within their workplace, these seminar groups give candidates the opportunity to meet regularly with others undertaking the same qualifications. At SCOTVQ we believe that anyone undertaking the Health And Social Care Level 4 award should be well supported and given opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding in order that they can meet the demands of leading and managing in care and support services. Therefore for many years now we have offered Level 4 through a structured programme consisting of fortnightly seminars each with an associated written assignment over a nine month time frame. Since Level 4 candidates tend not to have a peer group within their workplace, these seminar groups give candidates the opportunity to meet regularly with others undertaking the same qualifications. Candidates are assessed in their workplace and their products validated at key points in the programme. Their completed portfolios are then due for submission approximately 11 months from the start of the programme. By undertaking the structured programme managers have found that they: ? Develop supportive networks with other candidates in their seminar group. ? Consistently achieve requirements because clear verbal and written guidance is given to all candidates. ? Learn about current issues in policy and legislation and how to translate these into procedures and practice. ? Develop an empowering management style with a clear focus on how to support staff development. The taught programme can be also undertaken via blended learning, using a specially designated on-line discussion forum with other level 4 candidates and paper based or on-line, downloadable materials.
