Health & Social Care GCE A Level Qualification: ASA2 - 2 year course Course type: Level 3 (advanced) Entry requirements: 4 x GCSE B grades Head of Department: Mrs Pam Dalton Course assessment: Examined AS and A2 units are assessed by compulsory structured questions requiring some short and some longer answers in a one and a half hour exam. All other units are assessed on a portfolio of work (coursework) based on the content of the unit. What can this course offer me? You can choose from either Single or Double Award in Health and Social Care. The Health & Social Care courses are interesting and varied, you will study the principles of sociology, psychology and biology applied to many areas of health and social care. You will learn and develop the skills essential for working with people in any career, such as oral presentation skills, researching information, report writing, questionnaire design and results analysis and evaluation. The tutors have a range of experience in Health and Social Care sectors and students' success rates are high. What will I learn? You will need to: Be interested in researching information on health and social care from a variety of sources using our Learning Resource Centre, books, journals and the Internet. Enjoy writing coursework because it will count as 50% of your course mark. Enjoy Which other courses link well with this subject? Students combine Single or Double Award Health & Social Care with any other subject, but the subject combines well with: Sociology Biology Psychology English Business Studies Law Future Opportunities ASA2 Health & Social Care prepares you for entry to employment or higher education in early years education, nursing, paramedical careers, health promotion, disability and community studies, psychology, social work and the social sciences. Students have also used their Single or Double Awards to take them into the Police, retail management, health and safety, criminology and the Armed Services. The Single AS and A2 awards carry the same number of points as equivalent ASA2 subjects for entry to higher education the Double ASA2 awards carry double the number of points.
