Foundation Degree Health & Personal Training Course Overview This University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) validated foundation degree has a broad syllabus encompassing modules such as Health and Fitness Management, Nutrition and Weight Control, Developing Physical Activity and Exercise Science. The course aims to develop students' insight into Health & Personal Training through theoretical and practical experience. Additional all students will be the chance to take part in off site visits with guest speakers. The Foundation Degree in Health & Personal Training will develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology in order that it can be applied to fitness testing, sports training and exercise programme design and management. The programme will help students to develop powers of analysis, problem solving skills, research skills, critical thinking, team work and interpersonal skills. Our supportive, highly qualified and experienced staff, together with accessible and interactive lecture/seminar formats, all help to ensure you will have a rewarding academic experience. International trips and guest speakers are also a feature of the course, as are visits within the UK to trade and Health and Fitness facilities. What will I study? In the first year you will take a common core of introductory modules designed to familiarise you with differing approaches to the study of health and personal training, and to help you understand key theories, concepts and ideas. Level 1 also encompasses a practical module in the form of Exercise Leadership and Gym Orientated Exercise. At level 2, students practical skills are developed in Developing Physical Activity and Personal Training. Students will also be actively involved in working within the local community and leisure and fitness organisations. All students undertake at least one module as a research project and there is a related IT provision which equips you with key transferable skills. Our graduates are knowledgeable, confident, socially aware, imaginative and enthusiastic individuals who work well under pressure and they are actively sought after in a wide number of occupations and professions. Upon successful completion of the programme progression to UCLAN is guaranteed to an appropriate 1 Year BA (Hons) programme. Modules can include Level 1: Exercise Sciences Health Training Personal and Vocational Development for Sport The Health and Fitness Industry Exercise Leadership and Gym Orientated Exercise Health and Fitness Management Level 2 Personal Training Nutrition and Weight Control Research Project Work Placement Developing Physical Activity Exercise Prescription and Rehabilitation Course Requirements For A-Level entrants, minimum 40 points or equivalent. AS level with a minimum of 40 points. Level 3 relevant vocational awards at pass level (double EE). Mature applicants with a non-standard qualifications and/or experience are welcomed and would be invited for interview. Although no prior study of health and personal fitness is necessary, evidence of enthusiasm and interest would be welcomed. Overseas students need their national equivalent qualification to the above plus a working standard of English language. Don't have the grades to get on the course?
