Course Description

Course Overview This course is suitable for anyone with an initial interest in hairdressing as a career who does not have the recognised attainment for Level 2 or who requires additional support. The level 1 qualification is an assistant role and will assist level 23 students in the salon. Additional training is highly recommended to enhance and supplement your main learning goal, to improve employment opportunities and add to your curriculum vitae. As such we endeavour to organise and arrange as varied external input as possible during your course of study. Course Structure The programme is delivered over one academic year (34 weeks). The following topics will be covered: Health & Safety Code of Practice Assisting with Salon Reception Duties Contributing to the Development of Effective Working Relationships (Team Work) Consultation Pre-care and After-care Preparation and Maintaining the Hairdressing Work Area Shampoo and Conditioning Hair Assisting with Perming and Colouring Essential Skills (Literacy & Numeracy ) More able students will have the opportunity of working towards additional Level 2 units of Hairdressing. Qualification Aims C & G NVQ in Hairdressing at level 1 AssessmentsExaminations Continual written and practical assessmentsassignments in both theory and practical aspects of the course. Practical assessments are carried out in a realistic work environment(RWE) on fee-paying clients. A portfolio of evidence is compiled throughout the course and submitted for final verification.
