Are YOU looking for a job in London? Already putting your best foot forward? Dressing sharp? Read all the ?How to interview? stuff out there? Want to get hired for that job you really want? Well, I?ve got a fresh and unique perspective for you? Let me start by being perfectly clear and honest with you: ?I have been on only one job interview in my entire adult life!? It was my first interview out of University. And I got hired. Immediately. When I quit two months later to start my second business, the guy who hired me ACTUALLY said to me ?Yea, I figured you?d quit right away.? When I asked him ?Why did you hire me then?!??? He said ?I don?t know, I just really liked you.? ?I don?t know, I just really liked you!? Sure, I was qualified, but so are most people who go on interviews. So maybe it was a fluke, right? (It?s true, I haven?t had a job since and probably never will again, so we might never know.) Well, it certainly is a possibility, but it?s one that I doubt and for very good reason ? because: I?ve used essentially the same approach as in that interview (along with a ton of cutting-edge influence tools I?ve learned and developed over the past ten years) to sell my self, my products and my services through my own businesses since then! But why does all this matter to you? BECAUSE! If you are looking for a job, whether you?re unemployed, want to move up to the next level or want to change careers alotegher, I want you to understand and? I want you to KNOW that I CAN HELP YOU GET HIRED! I know it may seem crazy to listen to a guy who doesn?t even do the corporate career thing. For it to make sense to you why this is the actually the best thing you could be doing right now, you have to realise something? A few weeks ago I was having Tapas in Shoreditch with some good friends of mine. The husband has a very high up position at one of the largest accounting firms in the world. I was telling him about my GET HIRED! Influence for Interviews evening workshops and he was telling me about how he was looking to hire someone for a high-level position at his firm? He told me the pickings of applicants were thin, so he went back through old CV?s and found one for a woman he had interviewed a year prior, but had not hired. Her CV was literally PERFECT for the new position, so he had her in for another interview? ?I wanted desperately to hire her. She was incredibly qualified. But I just didn?t feel like she connected with me. There was just something missing? So I had to give her the thumbs down.? I was telling him how I was considering turning the evening workshops into a full day training and he said? ?John, do it. She needs your training. So many people who are looking for a job need that.? On a smaller scale, just last weekend I was getting some lunch on Brick Lane (I like hanging out in east London) with a friend of mine who runs a boutique shop on Marylebone Lane. She was telling me how she had JUST hired a guy who was going to be leaving in two months, even though she?d have to go through the process all over again? ?because she ?just really connected? with him! Finally, in my business I am CONSTANTLY fighting with myself to be more aware of my own bias to hire people because I like them instead of whether or not they are actually qualified for the position! The BEST way for me to protect myself against this bias is for me to make sure they are qualified before I interview them! This way, there is no chance of me ending up with someone working for me who isn?t qualified. Now? Do you see what all of this means!?!? If you are going on a job interview you are already qualified! And why does THIS matter? It matters because your focus during interviews should NOT be on proving your qualifications. If you want to GET HIRED then your focus during interviews must be on INFLUENCING and CONNECTING with your interviewers! And this is where I come in. This is my game. I have been studying, practicing and teaching this stuff to people, compa
