Course Description

Investigates the relationship between nutrition, food choice, and health and examines the nature, function, application and implications of food processing in the home. This course is based on Syllabus 3562 Requirements: You do not need any special qualifications but should have basic literacy skills. Hours of Study: See External Exam Info External Exam Information: Exams are held in England, at a wide variety of regional examination centres. However there are a limited number of centres in Scotland, Wales, EIRE and Northern Ireland. All students must make their own arrangements to sit exams. Exams take place in June and the entry deadlines are mid February. Coursework deadline is 31 March. Written Paper = 50% of the mark - Foundation Tier 1 12 hours, Higher Tier 2 hours. Coursework = 50% of the marks - Candidates must undertake an investigationtask which will include written and practical elements. This will require research and investigation into a chosen topic. Absolute deadline for enrols onto 2006 exams is 1st Feb 2006. After this students will need to take exams 2007. NO ENROLMENTS TO BE TAKEN LESS THAN 9 MONTHS PRIOR TO EXAMINATION Additional Exam Fees: ?21.80 Recommended Reading: Examining Food and Nutrition by J Ridgewell Skills Home Economics and Food by J Ridgewelll and L Davies Human Nutrition by Mary E Barasi.
