GCE A Level Physics (C) CG60045 Financial Information If you are aged 16-18 and study on a full-time, further education programme then your course is free. If you are over 18 then grants and loans may be available to help towards course fees. Is it for me? Physics is offered for study at AS level in Year 12 and A2 in Year 13. What do I need? GCSE C grade or above in science to begin the AS level and then successful completion of the AS to continue to A2. What will I study? The AS level consists of three modules: Forces and Motion: This module covers the basics of work on forces extending knowledge from GCSE Electrons and photons: This module covers wave /particle duality and the phenomena which result from it. Wave properties + experimental skills: The effects of waves and the electromagnetic spectrum Forces, fields and energy: Magnets, electrical forces and the interaction between them Nuclear and particle physics: A study of sub-atomic particles and their known effects Unifying concepts + practical: A module covering many aspects of the work covered previously in more detail + practical skills assessment Assessment Each module in the course has a written examination and the practical examinations are 1? hours long. The written exams are no longer than 1? hours and consist of structured / short answer questions with some elements of extended writing How will I be taught? Links with engineers in the community are established and project work is available to broaden understanding. Visits to lectures at the Universities also form an integral part of the course. What qualification will I get? GCSE AS Level / A Level Physics Can I go onto further study? What are the career opportunities? Degrees in pure physics, all types of engineering, astrophysics, aeronautics, optometry and ophthalmology, architecture. Mathematics is a useful subject to study with physics. Does it include key skills? All students following full time courses will be expected to develop their skills in English, Maths and ICT. How do I apply? This course requires an interview.
