Awarding Body City & Guilds Course Content This Level 2 course is an introduction to horse and stable management for those wishing to pursue a career with horses. It aims to provide a breadth of knowledge relating to horses, the equine industry and the business skills relevant to that industry. Students spend one week in two on the college's competition yard which is also a BHS examination centre. The yard has a variety of well-schooled horses which are used for instruction in dressage and show-jumping. Students have the opportunity to participate in competitions hosted by the college and to receive instruction for BHS examinations from BHS instructors and examiners.The course includes a compulsory work experience unit which involves 1 week's work experience per term at a suitable equine establishment Course Features A competition yard with horses schooled for dressage, show-jumping and side-saddle The opportunity to take BHS Stage examinations and the Riding and Road Safety Test as part of the course. A friendly and supportive environment in which to develop your skills. Opportunities to compete on your own or college horses Work experience increases your chances of employment after completing the course Career Prospects and Progression Students who successfully complete this course at merit or above may progress to the Advanced National Certificate Horse Management or to full or part time BHS training. There is an increasing demand for people with good practical skills to work in stable yards, stud work and racing . Modules Core units: - Horse health - Horse care - Feeding and watering - Horse tack and clothing - Work experience - Safe working with and around horses Option units: - Animal science - Small business practices - Introduction to ground schooling - Competition horse grooming - Equestrian estate skills Method of Assessment Assessment is by means of assignments, practical assessments and external on-line multi-choice test. Course Length 1 year Time of Delivery Daytime Campus Pibwrlwyd Campus Bilingual Provision Students can receive course materials and submit assignments in Welsh Entry Requirements No formal qualifications required. Entry is subject to successful interview and riding assessment. Applicants should have some relevant work experience. Full-time or Part-time FullTime
