Course Description

Full Time Viticulture and Oenology BSc(Hons) This programme is unique in the UK and prepares students for a career in vineyard management, winemaking or further academic study in the UK or overseas. Subject Areas This course covers all aspects of vinegrowing, wine production and related biological sciences. Students will gain practical skills in grape growing, winemaking, wine analysis and sensory evaluation. This will be supported by theoretical knowledge in viticulture, oenology, microbiology, chemistry, cell biology, botany and soil science. Students complete a vintage placement and a major undergraduate research project around a viticultural or oenological topic of their own choice. Study Pattern The course is studied over three academic years. There are core compulsory modules in all three stages with optional modules available at stages 2 and 3 to offer the opportunity of broadening study or engaging in further specialisation. The students will also take an active practical role during the course, maintaining the College vineyards and producing wine in the College winery. Career Opportunities Career choices include vinegrowing, winemaking, the management of vineyards and wineries and winemaking research and consultancy, both in the UK and abroad. Further study options include the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Diploma.
