Course Description

Full time Veterinary Care Assistant The course combines practical work experience in a veterinary surgery with an understanding of animal anatomy, husbandry and management of a range of commonly kept domestic pets along with customer care and reception skills to prepare graduates to enter veterinary assistants posts and possibly trainee veterinary nursing roles. The course covers the following areas: Unit 001 - Introduction to Common Animal Species #Unit 002 - Animal Handling, Restraint and Movement #Unit 003 - Animal Health, Hygiene and Disease Control #Unit 004 - Introduction to Animal Emergencies and First Aid #Unit 005 - Basic Veterinary Terminology #Unit 006 - Introduction to Anaesthesia and Surgical Equipment #Unit 007 - Introduction to Radiography #Unit 008 - Administration of Medication, Basic Dispensing and Pharmacy #Unit 009 - Administrative Duties in the Veterinary Practice #Unit 010 - Health and Safety in the Veterinary Practice #Unit 011 - Introduction to Employment Issues in the Veterinary Practice #Unit 012 - Introduction to Animal Euthanasia and Bereavement A general college induction will take place during the first week, please ask your tutor during this time if you have any queries. You will need to meet staff involved with your course, familiarise yourself with the College and meet your fellow students. It is ESSENTIAL that students have an up-to-date tetanus vaccination.
