Type: Full Time Vehicle Body and Paint Operations Length: 1 year Location: Darlington College Academic Year: 2010/11 Costs Course Cost* (pa) ?1,644.00 Registration Fee: ?TBC Additional Costs (apr) ?0.00 Course Overview This motor industry qualification covers activities that relate to body repairers working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist body repair shops. Aim of this course You will learn how to apply decorative finishes and protective coatings to vehicles, using a manual spray gun or automated equipment. You will learn in our fully equipped motor vehicle workshops, through practical experience. Course modules General body repair processes Body Preparation methods Vehicle Construction Vehicle Valeting Health and Safety in vehicle body shop Portfolio building What are the entry requirements? No formal qualifications are required. All applicants will have an interview at the college and we will request a school or college report. How will I learn? You will develop your practical skills in our state-of-the-art body shop using industry standard equipment. Classroom lessons will also help to develop your underpinning knowledge of the industry. 4 hours per week also needed outside of college for private study. When will I be expected to be in college? You will be in college 4 days per week. How will I be assessed? Examining body: C>EMPBR Assessment is a series of practical assignments and short tests. You will answer written questions which are set externally. What if I need support? The college provides a safe and up-to-date working environment with many sources of information available in resource-based learning centres. Where possible, we will provide additional learning support as you need it and discuss your progress through tutorials. Further study Level 2 Vehicle Body and Paint Operations. Career progression The level 1 qualification is a perfect starting point for the person wishing to become an apprentice in the body shop industry. *The tuition fee is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19 or over tuition fees will apply. Help may be available with fees, please ask. Government funding may be available through apprenticeship or train to gain schemes.
