Public and Community Services Foundation Degree - FdA (Manchester Metropolitan University) WHAT'S ON THE COURSE? This Foundation Degree is suitable for people who are, or would like to be involved in the public or community services sector. It will develop your understanding of practical and theoretical disciplines required within the public services industries. Course Aims: Provide vocationally recognised routes into careers in the public services sector. Provide important theoretical and practical knowledge in the relevant disciplines whilst continuing to progress vocational experience Enable you to develop your skills and knowledge to enhance your performance in the workplace Modules will include: Level 4 Psychology of Human Behaviour Teamwork & Leadership Skills Understanding Crime & Society Sociological Issues Understanding Health and Fitness Public and Community Service Management Level 5 Disaster Response Dealing with Evidence The Justice and Penal System Vocational Placement Outdoor and Expedition Skills Physical Preparation There will also be significant focus on the skills required for effective communication, self-development and a future career within the public service sector. Assessment will be through a combination of coursework, practical demonstration and portfolio building. All applicants must be able to obtain a work placement lasting at least 30 hours or be in employment WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE AND FEES? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? 2 Years. Full Time. WHEN DOES IT START? Autumn 2011 and 2011. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The tuition fee for this course is 1,285.00 per annum (home students only). IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME? WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR? Applicant normally considered for entry to the programme provided the following requirements are met: a) 3 GCSE subjects at C or higher including Maths and English and one GCE at 'AS' level (or nationally accepted alternative qualification) OR b) Successful completion of an access programme containing elements of study in relevant subjects or associated areas OR c) Appropriate level NVQ, GNVQ or BTEC qualification which contain elements relevant to study in relevant subjects OR d) Successful completion of an appropriate NGB Coaching or other professional qualifications or vocational experience in a relevant professional setting. WHAT CAN I DO NEXT? Successful completion of the Foundation Degree can lead to employment within the uniformed public services sector or progression to the 3rd and final year of the BA Honours Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.
