Psychology ASA2 Level (AQA) WHAT'S ON THE COURSE? Why Study Psychology? If you like to know what makes people tick and why they behave the way they do, then Psychology is for you. Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour. It is the study of what people (and animals) do and whey they do it. Psychologists also try to use their understanding to help people with difficulties, and to bring about change for the better in fields such as health care, education industry and commerce. Tutors are enthusiastic, caring and supportive and use a variety of teaching techniques and resources to make learning interesting and challenging. We aim to give you some fundamental and interesting insights into behaviour and thought processes that will help you cope with the challenges of life, both for yourself and those you come into contact with. WHAT'S ON THE COURSE? Module 1 Cognitive psychology, development psychology and research methods. This involves the study of models of memory in everyday life, eg eye witness testimony, attachment in childhood etc. Module 2 Biological psychology, sociology and individual differences. This involves the study of the body's response to a variety of stress, related illnesses, every day life, work place and the methods of stress management . How is the course examined? Structured compulsory questions including short answer questions, stimulus material and one 12 mark essay question. 50% AS Level marks, 25% of total A2 Level marks. You get to explore lots of different things on the course and I find it very interesting. I want to go on to do a degree in Forensic Psychology and this course is the perfect stepping stone towards that. WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE AND FEES? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? 2 Years. Full Time. WHEN DOES IT START? 05 September 2011. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Tuition fees are free for this course (home students only). However, for students aged 19+, there is a fee of ?50 per year, which may be remitted if you are on income-based benefits. IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME? WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR? There is no requirement to have studied Psychology previously. AS and A levels are in-depth courses specifically designed for students with good study skills and enthusiasm for their chosen subject. They are for people who wish to progress to university or go into full-time employment. WHAT CAN I DO NEXT? Psychology is a very widely recognised A Level subject. There are many employment opportunities for people with Psychology qualifications, although to become a practising psychologist in, for example, health, education or industry, usually requires a degree in the subject. Most of our students therefore continue into HE to gain a degree in MedicineNursing or Teaching.
