Perhaps you would like a career in Mental Health or wish to become a Social Worker? If so, this course is for you. Psychology is enjoyable and useful and provides a wealth of knowledge that you can use in everyday life. The course is aimed at those wishing to study for a degree at University who dont yet have the required entry qualifications. It will equip you with the academic skills and specialist knowledge needed to succeed in Higher Education and also help develop your in Maths and I.T. ability and increase your self-confidence. Psychology is a very popular subject and there are many options for further study at University which will lead to a career in a variety of subjects. Course content: Special Study: Childhood Development, Cognitive and Social Psychology, Psychopathology Research Methods Independent Project Developing skills for Studying Reviewing and planning for Future Study GCSE Maths and English Equivalence Facilities for students: You can benefit from a well equipped library at the Pelham site and lending rights at Sussex University and the University of Brighton. The Access course maintains excellent links with local universities and there are many opportunities to attend Open Days throughout the year. We also have visiting staff from the universities offering advice on admissions, UCAS applications, finance, career choice etc. We also have our own excellent student services department, counselling service and student union. Tutors: The tutors are well qualified, experienced and enthusiastic and understand the needs of Access learners and provide appropriate support and guidance. There is also support on applying to university from other organisations working together with City College such as Information Days at local universities. Assessment: Ongoing assessment e.g. Research project, written assessments, multiple choice tests, exams, presentations, class debate. Awarding Body: OCNSER Entry Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to demonstrate literacy and numeracy at an appropriate level for the course by completing an initial assessment. Students will need to show a good level of motivation, be fully committed to the course and be able to spend a minimum of 5 hours per week studying at home. Interview for entry: Interview required Pre-entry preparation: Any introductory A-Level Psychology text. e.g. Cardwell, Clark and Meldrum. Psychology for A Level. Progression and links: The course will enable you to apply for a degree or Foundation degree. Please note University entrance requirements may require additional qualifications in English, Maths and Science. Counselling, Mental Health, Research, Education, Social Services, Human Resources, Police (e.g. Forensics) in fact any career that requires good people skills andor research and statistics skills.
