With this in mind, the Foundation Degree in Early Years Childcare and Education has been designed in consultation with employers across the region, to provide early years practitioners with a lively, stimulating, employment focused learning experience, which will not only satisfy the requirements of the most demanding employer, but also provide the stimulus for deeper understanding of the issues affecting children and their carers in the twenty first century. We have a passion, and we want you to have one too! Entry Requirements: What are we Looking for? All applicants will be considered individually. Age is not considered to be a significant determinant for selection on to the programme however you must be able to demonstrate appropriate work experience. Normally entrance would be based on the following criteria: Level Three qualifications in a relevant field (Typical profile would be 160 UCAS points). Level 3 vocational awards are also appropriate. Candidates should have at least 3 year's experience of working in an early years setting on either a paid or (substantial) voluntary basis. Applicants who do not meet the requirement for prior experience are given advice on obtaining further experience. Candidates are required to complete CRB Enhanced Disclosure, since they are regarded as potentially having unsupervised substantial access to children and young people. The College has quality assurance policies which promote equal opportunities for all candidates. It is important to note that this is a university level programme and, as such, involves the study and analysis of complex materials along with high level writing skills. Whilst candidates should not be deterred by the level of difficulty, all should be aware of the level of effort and commitment required. We have a strong reputation for supporting students to develop and maintain such skills, particularly in the case of specific learning needs. Are you are an experienced childcare practitioner qualified to at least level 3 and currently working on either a paid or voluntary basis with children? Are you looking to develop your career, possibly into management within the broader children's workforce then this is definitely the course for you. If, on the other hand, you have experience through placement, having recently finished a college or school-based course at level 3, you may still be exactly the right caliber of person for this course and we will be happy to advise you. Assessment Methods: Assessment strategy will draw on a variety of activities including personal and professional portfolio, essays, reports, written pieces of work, presentations andor case studies, research projects, online assessment, open book exams, peer review and placement observation. Progression: The Foundation Degree in Early Years Childcare and Education is a qualification in its own right and completion entitles you to the status of 'Advanced Practitioner'. The knowledge and experience you have gained will help open up a wide range of opportunities in the early years and associated sectors, many at management and supervisory levels. However, if you've got the study bug, you may feel that you want to take your qualifications a step further by taking a one year to-up to BA (hons) early Childhood Studies here at the School of Health, Care and Early Years. Alternative options include one year BA (hons) top ups at The University of Cumbria and The University of Central Lancashire
