Course Description

Pre-Apprentice Programme Level 1 (Light Vehicles/Vehicle Body Repair) What you will study The course follows the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Technical Award, which forms part of the Modern Apprenticeship framework. You will study in the following two Motor Vehicle areas: - Vehicle Body Repair - Vehicle Maintenance The programme is aimed at school leavers and other young people who do not have nationally recognised qualifications and may need to obtain the skills, knowledge and qualifications to improve their prospects for either employment or further study at the College. Key Skills, Number, IT and Communications are an integral part of all full-time courses at Llandrillo and will therefore form part of your programme of study The units delivered include: - Auxiliary Electrical units and components - Developing self and working safely with others - Remove and replace components - Service and Repair - Vehicle Body - Vehicle Valeting Additionally provisions have been been developed for students whose academic progression needs to focus primarily on improving numeracy and literacy skills, while also working towards a vocational qualification necessary to advance onto the Technical Award Level 1. You will also study for the IMI Vehicle fitting Level 1 as well as basic skills in numeracy and literacy. Who the course is for To prepare students with a basic technical and academic background which provides access to a wide range of careers associated with the Motor Vehicle and Transport Industries. The units have been selected to be delivered in a 'Real Work Environment' workshop at College, training centre or work-placement in industry using real vehicles. How you will study The course is delivered through practical demonstrations which are supported with realistic working tasks, where the emphasis is on you demonstrating competence skills. Underpinning knowledge for each unit is given on a lecture based mode of delivery, where you're encourages to produce assignment work and use the internet whenever possible. How you will be assessed Assessment is ongoing and assessed internally, theory assessment is carried out online, with each unit having multi-choice questioning. Practical assessments are also an integral part of each unit. You will also be given the opportunity to visit Industry and Trade Shows and will be placed in Industry for a two week period which will take place by mutual agreement. Your Options After the Course Once you've completed the course you could go onto to study for: - Pre-Apprentice Programme Level 2 You could also move onto a Modern Apprenticeship or into employment.
