AWARDINGVALIDATION BODY City and Guilds, OCR National Literacy Test ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants will have met the following entry requirements and attended a successful interview with satisfactory references providing information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance. Communication and Numeracy skills at Entry level 3 Proven record of excellent attendance and punctuality Commitment to the course Good manual dexterity skills (i.e. and ability to work with their hands) Basic Skills: Application of Number, Communication, Information Technology Pre skills where needed: AEB Numeracy and Literacy - or equivalent and 5 day work experience. Applicants will need to have a Starter kit if the full kit is not available at the start of course. PROGRAMME CONTENTSTRUCTURE This course is for those students who wish to improve their English and learn the practical aspects of hairdressing by studying for NVQ Level 1 qualifications. Students will receive additional English support classes to improve their communication skills and enable them to cope with the language demands of the course. During their practical lessons students will be working in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out hairdressing services on clients. As clients for all courses cannot be guaranteed, students may need to provide their own clients. Students will also be required to carry out work experience activities for 4 weeks whilst on course. In addition to studying Adult Literacy the Level 1 subjects covered will include: Develop Effective Working Relationships Health and Safety Prepare for Services and Maintain Working Area Salon Reception and Shampoo and Condition Hair. PROGRESSIONCAREERS OPPORTUNITIES On successful completion of this course students can progress onto NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing with ESOL or choose to find employment in the Hairdressing industry at junior level. Learner to meet the following targets: Obtain required initial assessment level A minimum of 80% attendance in 2 terms Completed 4 weeks work experience with a positive reference Complete Level 1 qualifications including passing the National Literacy Test ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE This is gained through observed practical, oral and written assessment that will be ongoing throughout the duration of the programme. Students will be expected to collect relevant evidence through witness testimony projects and assignments towards their portfolio. Where students may be able to provide evidence of prior learning and experience which can be accredited. EXCURSIONS WORK EXPERIENCE There will be a minimum of one subject related visit during the year which is part of your course and therefore compulsory. There will also be opportunities to enter competitions and it is expected that all students will take part in these activities. READING LISTS Recommended text books to be advised during induction. A suitable lever arch file and paper with dividers will be needed.
