Course Description

NVQ 3 Hairdressing This is a one year practical course underpinned with the theoretical knowledge and understanding required at this level for you to work safely in the salon. Your tutors are all professionals with qualifications and experience of the hairdressing industry. They will help you to practice your new skills on each other, mannequin heads and with clients in our new salons which are open to the general public as well as staff and students. More Information The Level 3 NVQ in Hairdressing consists of 4 mandatory units plus 5 optional units to achieve a full qualification (9 units in total):- Unit G1 Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety Unit G6 Promote additional products or services to clients Unit G9 Provide hairdressing consultation services Unit H27 Create a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques Unit H24 Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills Unit H25 Style and dress hair to achieve a variety of creative looks Unit H26 Style and dress long hair Unit H28 Provide colour correction services Unit H30 Colour hair using a variety of techniques Unit BT20 Provide Indian Head Massage treatment The course is a careful balance of theory and practical work. You will be able to gain additional experience in the College salon as well as attending lectures. Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the course. A portfolio will be built up containing assignments, projects, practical work and tests. You will gain an NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing and be able to apply for work as a Manager in salons, department stores, health farms, cruise liners, work as a colour technician, cutting technician or run your own business. Students will gain an insight into the career prospects of the hairdressing industry when we visit the Salon International Exhibition in London, as well as having visiting speakers from salons, health farms and cruise line companies. Key skills all students will study key skills of IT level 2, gaining an additional qualification valued by employers and further education. You will need a professional hairdressing uniform with shoes approximately 60 or you may have a uniform from your level 2 course. Equipment kit and mannequin head costing approximately 150 including a text book. Dates for your Diary We shall be pleased to see you at any of our Open Events.
