What's the course about? Access to HE Diplomas are designed to prepare mature learners for higher education (HE). They have been specifically designed for people who may have little in the way of formal educational qualifications, but who bring to the course a variety of life and work experience, a desire to learn and a willingness to study. In addition to studying the core modules, you will have the opportunity to study literacy, numeracy and information technology and GCSE English, Maths and Chemistry. A supportive learning environment is provided by using a variety of methods, including classroom-based teaching, group and individual tutorials, group discussions, debates and presentations. The daytime option is made up of four modules: - Core - Health sciences: biology - Health studies - Psychology The day release option is made up of three modules: - Core - Health sciences (Biology) - Psychology All units are assessed and graded. There will be a variety of assessment, including essays, case studies, presentations and exams. What will I be able to do after I've completed this course? In the past, students have progressed onto university courses, such as: diplomas in nursing (adult, child and mental health), and degrees in nursing, midwifery, biological sciences, biotechnology, radiography, forensic sciencesanthropology, occupational therapy, prostheticsorthotics, operating department practitioner and psychology. Career opportunities exist in various branches of nursing and allied health professions. There is also an opportunity to progress onto an HNC in Health and Social Care (Care Practice), currently being offered by The Manchester College. What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course? There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you will need to go through an Initial Assessment process which will help us to place you on the correct course and identify any possible support needs that you might have. Also, you will need to demonstrate to the course tutor that you have the commitment and skills necessary to successfully complete the course. Applicants wishing to progress into higher education need to be aware that some higher education institutions (HEIs) may have additional entry requirements (e.g. GCSE Maths and English - grade C or above), in addition to the Access to HE Diploma. Please note the day release option is intended for individuals already in employment within the field of health. Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course? This course enables the learner to obtain an Access to HE Diploma, which is a credit based, graded qualification. Access Diplomas are a nationally accepted alternative to A Levels for entry to higher education and are recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for higher education.
