Full Time National Award in Horse Management Tutor: Rachel Roberts Duration: One year Start: Week beginning 13th September 2010 Code: EF1510 This one-year programme is aimed at students who wish to follow a shorter programme of study directly related to the horse industry. You must have experience of working with horses. The programme develops both technical knowledge and practical skills through lectures, practices, demonstrations and visits. Entry Requirements Students will normally be at least 16 years old on entry and have: ? 3 GCSE passes at grade C or above, ideally to include Science, Mathematics and English, or a First Diploma in Horse Care at Merit or above ? Period of practical experience working with horses Mature applicants who do not possess any of the above qualifications will be considered individually. Programme Content There are two programme structures to choose from with six of the below units being undertaken: ? Horse Breeding and Stud Practices ? Stable Skills ? Equitation (Practical & Theory) ? Horse Behaviour & Welfare ? Animal Biology ? Horse Nutrition ? The Equine Industry Work Experience One day per week for the duration of the programme. Qualifications Gained ? National Award in Horse Management ? Plumpton College National Award in Horse Management ? Additional practice to prepare for BHS exams ? Riding and Road Safety ? First Aid ? Functional Skills Progression This programme is designed for those who are looking to work in a position of responsibility within the animal care industry and wish to specialise in a specific sector of the equine industry. Students who achieve a merit or distinction at National Award will be able to progress to the BTEC National Diploma in Horse Management.
