Motor Vehicle Maintenance (City and Guilds) - Newbury College Full Time courses for under 19's are free of charge Code : Start : End : Times : Day : Duration : Cost (Year 1)* MV0100 091001 : 14/09/2009 : 02/07/2010 : to : : 17 Weeks : 715.00 Course Overview Newbury College has a fully equipped motor vehicle workshop with a number of service bays, for both light and heavy vehicles. Students will have considerable use of the workshop to gain valuable practical experience and build knowledge. Qualification gained: City & Guilds 3901 Vehicle Maintenance, during the first term. Course Content: This is a one-year full-time course. It covers the following units at a basic level: Health & Safety Motor Vehicle Construction Motor Vehicle Servicing, Motor Vehicle Transmission Systems Operation, removal and replacement of component Vehicle electronics. Workshop Sessions Key Skills Work Experience: Students reaching the required standard will have the opprotunity to undertake a programme of work experience. Course Assessment: Students will be required to complete a series of practical assignments and a portfolio of evidence for the 3901 award. Progression: Successful completion of the course enables progression to further study at Level One, or in a related area . Homework: There is little additional work outside of classes. Additional Costs: There are no additional costs but students will need to provide overalls and suitable footwear for the practical sessions. Course Fees Fees quoted with the course information are for the current academic year. Fees for the next academic year starting in September are subject to change and will be confirmed annually. Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year; these fees are subject to confirmation annually. Popular courses fill quickly and early enrolment is recommended. Please note that course information may be subject to change and you are advised to check the current details with Newbury College before you enrol. Entry Requirement Candidates will need a reasonable standard of general education with at least two GCSEs (in Maths and English) at grade E or above. You will also need a specific interest in a career within the Motor Vehicle industry. Mature students are encouraged to apply. No specific mechanical skills are required for entry, however students will need to develop these as they progress. Part of assessment is by completion of a portfolio of evidence, students will therefore need the ability to complete written reports and produce evidence records
