Motor Vehicle Engineering (Body and Paint) Level 2 Attendance Full-time (up to 16 hours per week) Duration 1 Year Level This is a Level 2 course Times Starting 8 Sep 2009: Twelve Quays: Tue 08:00-17:00, Wed 08:00-17:00, Thu 08:00-17:00 Starting around 6 Sep 2010: Not yet timetabled It is planned to offer this course in the academic year 2010/11. How to Apply/Enrol Application Form to be returned to Learner Services Course Outline This course will help you to develop your skills, providing you with a competence based practical training programme, supported by theory sessions. It is designed for students who have satisfactorily completed the Level 1 course. Profile Competence based practical training programme supported by theory sessions. The course is broken down into 6 mandatory units in which practical assessments and on-line multi-choice theory questions are required in order to achieve this qualification. The course is exam based and there is continual assessment for the workshop tasks. You will also complete a portfolio of evidence. The course is divided between practical sessions in the motor vehicle workshop and underpinning knowledge. There are visits to industry and events that are associated with motor vehicles. The units you will study include: Unit G1/2/3 Developing Self and Working Safely with Others. Contribute to good housekeeping Unit BP02 Remove and Fit Non-welded Non-structural Vehicle Body Panels Unit BP05 Remove and Replace Vehicle Non-structural Body Panels Unit BP06 Repair Vehicle Non-structural Body Panels You will also be expected to undertake skills that would help you in the workplace such as Communication, Numeracy and the use of computers. This course is an ideal starting point for a student who wants to make a career in the motor vehicle industry. Additional Information All students are assessed in basic skills and additional support will be offered to individual students as necessary to improve individual achievement. Appropriate safety equipment is required including protective overalls and steel toe capped boots. Students will be expected to buy the appropriate course theory book and writing materials as necessary. Students will attend College for two half days and one full day per week. To ensure all learners are enrolled on the right course of study, the first few weeks of the programme will be an extended induction period. During this time your communication, numeracy and study skills will be assessed as well as your own preferred method of learning. Your behaviour will also be monitored, including your time management and attendance. Towards the end of the induction period, your course tutor will review your progress. If your course tutor believes the programme does not meet your requirements an appointment will be arranged with you (and possibly your parents) to discuss this assessment and a suitable alternative. This may include further assistance from the Advice and Guidance Team based in the college. Later courses may be charged at a different rate. Fees quoted are on an individual student basis only. Opportunities Progression into employment. Entry Requirement Specific requirements - GCSE Maths and English grade C or satisfactory completion of vehicle body repair level 1. You will be interviewed where you have the opportunity of expressing commitment, motivation and focus. You must attend regularly and punctually.
