Level 1 Diploma Painting and Decorating Attendance Full-time (up to 16 hours per week) Duration 1 Year Level This is a Level 1 course Times Starting 9 Sep 2009: Twelve Quays: Wed 09:00-17:00, Thu 09:00-17:00 Starting around 2 Oct 2010: Not yet timetabled It is planned to offer this course in the academic year 2010/11. How to Apply/Enrol Application Form to be returned to Learner Services Course Outline This course will provide you with a basic introduction to painting and decorating to enhance your practical skills. The Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating is designed to prepare people to enter the industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the test(s) are based on the learner showing what they can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirement of the qualification. To gain the diploma, learners must be successful in all units and the end practical assessment (synoptic practical assignment). Learners must also pass the GOLA online test, a separate knowledge test set and marked by the awarding body CAA. On completion you may be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma. Profile Learners will complete the following units for both practical and job knowledge: CC 1001 Carry out safe working practices in construction CC 1002 Information, quantities and communication with others 1 CC 1003 Building methods and construction technology 1 CC 1007 Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms 1 CC 1008 Prepare surfaces for decoration 1 CC 1009 Apply paint systems by brush and roller 1 CC 1010 Apply foundation and plain papers CC 1018 Produce specialist decorative finishes 1 Additional Information Students will be expected to supply their own steel toe-capped footwear, white bib & brace overalls, paper, files and folders etc. To ensure all learners are enrolled on the right course of study, the first few weeks of the programme will be an extended induction period. During this time your communication, numeracy and study skills will be assessed as well as your own preferred method of learning. Your behaviour will also be monitored, including your time management and attendance. Towards the end of the induction period, your course tutor will review your progress. If your course tutor believes the programme does not meet your requirements an appointment will be arranged with you (and possibly your parents) to discuss this assessment and a suitable alternative. This may include further assistance from the Advice and Guidance Team based in the college. Opportunities Successful completion of this course may mean you can progress to Level 2 Diploma Painting & Decorating or NVQ level 2 Painting & Decorating (if you gain employment). Entry Requirement Specific requirements - Completion of the Access to College and Training (ACT) Construction course for students aged 16 - 18. Action planning - Students will work with their tutors to Action plan. Students are expected to know when they are ready to be assessed. Information Technology - It would be helpful if you have used a computer before starting the course but if you have not got these skills you will be given a chance to learn. Manual dexterity and physical stamina - The course requires physical fitness. You will need to lift and use tools and handle materials.
