Course Code: Starting: September 2010 for 2 years At: East Midlands Centre for Automotive Training (EMCAT), Ruddington Fields Business Park, Mere Way, Ruddington, Nottingham NG11 6JZ Course Information: The IMI National Diploma covers the technical needs for today's motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnoses of complex system faults and advanced systems operation. It provides the essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. Students study both theory and practical aspects to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skill associated with working in a garage. The student's knowledge is assessed by practical assessment in a motor vehicle workshop environment and externally set 'on-line' multiple-choice testing. Course Content: Vehicle electrics and electronics; Diagnose and rectify auxilliary equipment electrical faults; Contribute to workplace good housekeeping; Diagnose and rectify engine and component faults; Diagnose and rectify chassis system faults (Braking, Steering and Suspension); Vehicle Mathematics, Science and ICT; Maintain positive working relationships Progression: Career Opportunities could include: Motor Vehicle Technician; Auto Electrican; Lift Truck Operator; Roadside Assistance and Recovery; Supervisor/Team Leader. Further Study: Progression can be made onto the IMI Level 4 Diploma for Automotive Master Technicians or other similar Level 4 qualifications. The coruse is an integral part of the ASL Apprenticeship and therefore provides a route into an ASL Apprenticeship. It can also help you to progress to employment, other work based training in the motor vehicle industry or higher level study at University. Additional Information: The course requires learners to purchase a range of personal protective and safety equipment, costs will be given at interview.
