Human Physiology and Health Level: Level 2 Full-time How long is the coursetraining? This is a one-year course. What will I be doing on the coursetraining? This one-year course provides a broad-based investigation into the subject of the systems of the body, cellular functions, genetics and the environment in relation to human health. Topics include: molecular and cellular structure systems of the body such as circulatory, respiratory, digestive, nervous, muscular, skeletal and reproductive. Growth, development, healthy lifestyles and genetics are also covered. The course comprises of two tiers of study a foundation level and a higher level. Classes are generally taught at the higher level which covers the foundation course plus extra material which will be clearly indicated.You will learn about all these areas via books, worksheets, videos, lectures and the internet. There will be some laboratory work with full instructions about how to use the equipment and you will learn many study skills as you do the course. These will help you to learn subject matter you have not come across before. If you have problems with the course, you can ask for learning support. You need four GCSE D grades to include Grade D in Biology, Human Biology or Science if taken before. What can I do after this coursetraining? You could progress to an advanced course, such as A-Level Biology, A-Level Human Biology. This course is particularly good for those intending on entering the Health Care profession. Get an application form through school, Connexions or by contacting the college. For more information refer to the 'How to Apply' page. How do I study the coursetraining and how will I be assessed? You will be taught through lectures, practical work, assignments and videos and you will have access to fully equipped laboratories. You will experience several different methods of assessment to monitor your progress. The assessments include practical work, study questions, problem sheets, independent research etc. Your coursework component is externally set, internally assessed by your teacher. It assesses your achievement in practical work over the course of the year and is worth 25%. There is one written paper worth 75%, marked externally which lasts 2 hours. This paper is taken in June and will be either the foundation or higher tier. What facilities are there? You will have access to a learning resource centre. There is a refectory in the Hele Building. What will the coursetraining cost me? This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course). If you are 19 or over please contact us to find out costs. Additional costs: Lab coat approximately ?9.00.
