Horse Knowledge and Care Stage 3 Qualification type Certificate Location External to college Attendance Full time As the definition of full time and part time can vary from course to course, please check with the tutor as to the exact number of hours study each week this course will entail. What's the course about? This course trains you in the skills needed to be able to look after up to four horses in stables and at grass. You will learn how to show a safe appropriate lunge technique for an unknown horse and use exercises for developing and maintaining control whilst exercising the horse. The course is assessed by practical examination. What will I be able to do after I've completed this course? This course could lead to a range of positions working with horses, including a horse groom, horse riding holiday centre manager, horse riding holiday centre ride leader, horse riding instructor and horse trainer. It can also lead to the British Horse Society PTT and Stage 3 Riding courses. What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course? You must be attached to one of The Manchester College's stable yards (the college has a list of all the yards, which can be given out on request). You are expected to have an acceptable level of literacy and numeracy and be physically fit in order to carry out yard and fieldwork efficiently without undue stress and strain. Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course? You will be awarded the British Horse Society Stage 3 in Horse Knowledge and Care (Grooms Certificate).
