Course Description

This course allows you to develop knowledge about the care and development of the people who live around us. These cover areas relating to the children?s workforce, the health industry, the community justice sector and the adult social care sector. The Diploma in Society, Health and Development has been developed to introduce young people to the huge and diverse sector - and to help them start to develop the skills and experience they need to succeed within it. People working in this sector are often dealing with some of the most vulnerable members of society so they need a wide range of skills and qualities to be able to do a good job. The Diploma uniquely combines essential skills, knowledge and hands on experience and employer based training, to prepare the learner for work or further study. The Diploma in Health, Society and Development relates to the areas of social work, health professions, community justice, teaching and in the children's work force. Students can study this programme at Level 1, 2 or 3. All Levels will enable the learner to either pursue a career in the sector or continue their studies to a higher level qualification including using the level 3 as a stepping stone to university. The Diploma also provides the learner with transferable skills that are welcomed by other subject areas and employers. The topics covered include: Human Growth Personal and Professional Development Health and Safety Health (Wellbeing) Social Care (Lifestyle of Individuals) Community Justice Children and Young People To support the theory a work placement will be part of the course and will give the learner the opportunity to gain experience of working in a related area, for example a social care setting. Case studies will help you learn about real-life situations, showing how essential it is that social, health and development professionals work together to help individual's families and communities. A range of assessment methods are used to show achievement, knowledge and understanding of the subjects covered. Additional areas of study will include functional skills in English, Maths and ICT, Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills.
