Course Code: Starting: September 2010 for 2 years At: West Bridgford Centre, Greythorn Drive, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 7GA Course Information: The Higher Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies is designed for 14 19 year olds to give young people the skills they will need to progress onto the Advanced Diploma, as well as prepare them for higher education, employment or work-based learning by providing them with transferable skills. The Diploma offers an innovative learning experience with a blend of academic and hands-on experience where they can put new skills into practice. The Diploma provides flexibility and has been designed with employers to ensure the skills learnt are relevant to the Hair and Beauty Industry. The Diploma will give learners an insight into work and help them to make decisions about their future pathway, opening up the options whether they decide to stay in further or higher education, or move into employment. Course Content: Safe and Healthy working practices in the hair and beauty sector and related industries The World of Hair and Beauty. The science of hair and beauty, Communication and client care in the hair and beauty sector, History of hair and beauty in society, Promoting and selling products and services by professional recommendation in the hair and beauty sector, Salon business systems and processes Exploring skin care and make up, Exploring hair care and styling, Exploring hand care and nail art In addition the learner will complete Functional Skills, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. A Project, Work Experience, Additional and specialist learning Progression: Advanced Apprenticeship or Employment with a Training Element. Progression onto Advanced Diploma, ASA-levels, International Baccalaureate, or Vocational qualifications at Level 2 or Level 3. Additional Information: May incur costs for work package The Higher Diploma on completion will provide the equivalent of seven GCSEs at grades A-C
