Course Description

Course Overview This is an excellent course if you are interested in health, equivalent to three A Levels. It will prepare you for entry into nurse training, midwifery and other health professions. We combine theoretical study in College and vocational practice gained from work placements. The placements can be anywhere in the Bradford district and you will have to be prepared to travel to experience a range of settings. Course Structure The course includes 11 Core Units plus eight Specialist Units, and your placements form a very important part of the course. You will also study useful Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Communication Technology. How Will I Learn? Through: Practical and theoretical activities in the classroom or placement Lectures from visiting speakers Research projects Demonstrations Worksheets, handouts and notes Independent research using nursing journals etc Skills You Will Develop Caring skills Communication skills Knowledge of health issues and nursing procedures First aid Basic food hygiene An understanding of working in a multicultural society Working with health professionals in placements Benefits You will: Study in a range of settings such as a food practical classroom, a science laboratory and a classroom Complete placements at least three times per year in hospital wards or departments, medical centres or other health or care establishments Observe medical procedures in a hospital setting whilst on placement. Take part in organised leisure and fun activities Teaching staff have valuable experience working in the field of Health Care. Expect Also To Use specialist terms and appropriate vocabulary Adhere to Health and Safety regulations Carry out group andor independent research Write reports, essays and projects Give clear instructions. How You Will Be Assessed All Units will be assessed and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Things You May Need Stationery Books Travel expenses for placement Entry Requirements Age 16+ at entry. Four GCSEs at Grade C or above which must include Science and English and preferably Maths. You may progress to this course from a BTEC First Diploma provided that you have achieved an overall Merit with three Units at Distinction.
