Health, Social Care and Early Years - Nat Extended Diploma L3 OCR Level 3 National Extended Diploma 2 Year Programme Year 1 - National certificate (9 Units) Year 2 - Full National diploma (9 Units) Introduction This course is suitable for those studying in preparation for employment in the health and social care sectors. Students will be able to gain a specialist endorsement in either Health or Social Care plus a breadth of knowledge, understanding and skills across the sector. Entry Requirements Duration This is a two year full time course. What will I study? You will study a broad range of Health and Social Care topics 18 units in total. 9 units will be studied each year. Students completing a Level 3 qualification will also be expected to study one key skill. Key Skills are the skills that are commonly needed for success in a range of activities in education and training, work and life in general. Other employment linked qualifications such as First Aid may be part of the programme of study. How will I be assessed? You will complete assignments which will all be centre assessed. There are no time-tabled exams. The National Extended Diploma can be achieved at Pass, Merit or Distinction. Work Experience In order to complete this programme of study students have to attend a work placement in the Health and Social Care field. Weymouth College has a dedicated Work Placement Officer who meets with each student at the beginning of term and allocates them to a suitable placement. The Placement Officer will support the student on their work placements. The placement is an integral part of the course and much of the practical work is assessed in the placement. Progression and Career Prospects This qualification is aimed at students who are seeking a career in health or social care. Students can progress into employment and undertake other related occupational training in the workplace, or students can progress to university for training in nursing, social work, and other related professions. Materials and Text Books Your lecturers will recommend textbooks. The College library has an extensive lending and reference book stock, in addition to videos and journals. A basic uniform of a polo shirt is required for placements. The cost of this is 9.20. These can be purchased through college at enrolment. Fees Under 19 as at 31st August Free. Over 19 as at 31st August and enrolling on a full programme of study- 470 or 430 if paid in full at the time of enrolment. Fees for studying any individual subject as a day student available on request. If you are in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit, or you are an unwaged dependant thereof, the fee is reduced to 100. No further reduction is available on this reduced fee. A Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check will need to be completed and gain a clear police check. The cost of this will be approximately 36 and will need to be paid in full at the time of enrolment by all students. All fees quoted are forBritish EEA Citizens with settled status who have been resident in an EEA country for the last 3 years or have exceptional circumstances or exceptional leave to remain.
