VCTC L2 DIPLOMA IN COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES Code: 84871A COURSE DURATION: 35 Week(s) COURSE DATES: 07 September 2009 to 25 June 2010 MODE OF ATTENDANCE: FT Holistic Therapies are for those concerned with treating the whole person rather than one specific area. With the ever-increasing pressures of today's hectic lifestyles, more and more people are exploring Holistic therapies as a way to help achieve both physical and psychological well being. This one-year course provides a starting point for those entering this area of work. Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs at grades D-G or equivalent or a Level 1 qualification, alongside the successful completion of the appropriate Key Skills to support achievement in this vocational area. Entry will be by personal interview with the tutor. A high standard of personal hygiene is essential, together with a mature outlook and good communication skills. An anatomy and physiology qualification is not essential but would be helpful. You will be required to purchase a uniform for salon work and a kit maybe available to purchase during the course. Course Content You will study the following subjects and if successful will achieve a Certificate in Holistic Therapies Certificate Body Massage An introduction to Aromatherapy and Reflexology in the form of using pre-blended oils and zone therapy, which is the basis of Reflexology. Health and Safety and Employment Standards Client Care Anatomy and physiology As part of your course, you will be required to study towards functional skills in Maths, English and IT at an appropriate level. Method of study This course is delivered by theoretical and practical sessions, along with support learning materials. In order to successfully complete your practical skill assessments, students are required to provide suitable clients for treatments. Clients will be charged according to the salon price list available from the Hair and Beauty Reception. Method of assessment Assessment will be by practical observation, oral and written assessments, case studies, and written assignments. An element of external assessment will also be used. During the course you will also produce a portfolio of evidence. Enrichment activities will be offered to include skills to enhance your programme of study. Progression routes There is a natural progression to level 3 Diploma in Holistic Therapies and other qualifications related to the Holistic therapy industry. If you are 19 years or over you may have to pay your exam fees and a tuition fee for this course. Financial help may be available through the College Learner Support Fund. You may also be able to pay by direct debit. You may be eligible for free tuition if you do not already hold a full level 2 qualification. You must be enrolled on a course prior to making an application to the College Learner Support Fund.
