CACHE FOUNDATION AWARD CARING FOR CHILDREN Code: 20471A COURSE DURATION: 35 Week(s) COURSE DATES: 07 September 2009 to 25 June 2010 MODE OF ATTENDANCE: FT This is a level one course which is an introduction to childcare. This Foundation Award: gives you an introduction to the type of knowledge and understanding required when working in child care and education. provides the opportunity to develop basic skills in caring for children which can be used on a personal basis supporting parenthood helps you to identify and achieve your own goals in education and training Course Content The titles of the CFCC units are: Personal Development Human Growth and Development Food and Nutrition Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Care Settings Care of Children Play and Practical Activities Orientation to Work Programme. You will learn about children at different stages in their growth and development. You will also gain basic skills in caring for children and for supporting their learning. Students will undertake work experience with children during the course. Additional skills include Communication, Application of number, Information Technology, Arts and Craft. As part of your course, you will be required to study towards functional skills in Maths, English and IT at an appropriate level. Method of study You will study using a mixture of class work, group discussions and individual tutorial. Practical work will be incorporated into most units and there will be practical work with children. Method of assessment Each unit will have its own assignments and you will build a portfolio of your work. In order to gain the Foundation Award you will have to complete: Portfolio tasks for Units 2 to 6 One test paper Satisfactory tutor report for Unit 1 Satisfactory Personal Action Plan for Unit 7 Entry Requirements GCSE grade profile of E-G or equivalent. Mature students with relevant experience andor other qualifications may be eligible. At least 16 years of age and eligible to work with children according to the fit person specification of Social Services. Students are required to obtain an up to date Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and two references. Other Details FEES AND FINANCIAL HELP: * ?519.00 * This fee is approximate and subject to change. Final costs will be confirmed at time of application. CRB check is ?36 and this will be payable in induction week. If you are 19 years or over you may have to pay your exam fees and a tuition fee for this course. Financial help may be available through the College Learner Support Fund. You may also be able to pay by direct debit. If there are additional qualifications linked to this course these may incur additional exam charges. You must be enrolled on a course prior to making an application to the College Learner Support Fund.
