There are many career opportunities in the industry and our courses can help you achieve your goals. Other career options in hairdressing include working on cruise liners or in hotel spas. Aim of this course Hairdressing is a glamorous profession and if you have the style and a friendly personality, we will give you everything you need to begin your hairdressing career. This is an intense course covering all elements of basic hairdressing you will learn both theory and practical aspects of the course. Course modules Health and safety in the salon Client consultation Giving clients a positive impression Reception duties Shampooing and conditioning hair Cutting hair Change hair colour using basic techniques Styling hair Set and dress hair Perming hair Developing your effectiveness at work Promote additional services or products Key skills, IT, Literacy, Numeracy. What are the entry requirements? 4 GCSEs of which 3 to be grade C or above. All applicants will have an interview at the college and we will request a school or college report. How will I learn? This course enables you to develop the necessary interpersonal skills as well as the appropriate 'on the job' skills. You will be taught using up-to-date resources that are appropriate to your individual learning style. Lessons are in the form of practical workshops, classes, and tutorials. When will I be expected to be in college? You are expected to attend college for a minimum of 18 hours per week this may include a late night until 8pm, as well as allowing time for private study of about 5 hours per week. You are expected to attend a salon placement. How will I be assessed? Examining body: EDEXCEL There are no formal exams. You will be continuously assessed on your practical work and provide written evidence for theory via module activities and oral written tests and assignment work. What if I need support? The college provides a safe and up-to-date working environment with many sources of information available in resource-based learning centres. Where possible, we will provide additional learning support as you need it and discuss your progress through tutorials. Further study You may want to add to your skills and level of qualification by moving on to the NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing course, or continuing learning with a barbering qualification. If you are interested in beauty therapy, you could progress onto a NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy. Career progression Hairdressers have excellent career opportunities and can work anywhere in the world. This qualification will give you the necessary skills and experience needed to become a junior stylist in the salon. *The tuition fee is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19 or over tuition fees will apply. Help may be available with fees, please ask. Government funding may be available through apprenticeship or train to gain schemes.
