Course Description

General Studies & Critical Thinking General Studies Students on an Advanced Level programme attend one General Studies lesson per week. The lessons prepare you for an examination based on thinking and analytical skills rather than knowledge. General Studies is recognised by a wide range of higher education institutions (universities) and employers. It will give you a wider knowledge of the world and will help you to develop skills that are of value in other subject areas. The sessions involve a lot of group work and active learning. A typical lesson will provide you with factual information and then focus on discussion and debate. Many lessons will be based on past papers and examiners' mark schemes so that you will have a clear idea of the format of the examination. In General Studies you will study a range of topics covering areas such as new technology, advertising, censorship, terrorism and innovation in the arts. General Studies is suitable for all students. All it requires is a curiosity about the world we live in and a willingness to argue a point of view.
