Foundation Degree (FdEng) Engineering Manufacture What you will study Year 1 Advanced Computer Aided Design 2D CAD (10 credits) This module will give you a good grounding in the use of engineering based CAD packages in 2D. Engineering Management Principles (10 credits) This aims to provide a broad introduction to the study of engineering organisations and their management. Engineering Mathematics (20 credits) This module arms to give you the mathematical tools needed to undertake the other technical modules. Engineering Science (20 credits) The module provides you with an appreciation of a broad spectrum of engineering topics in both mechanical and electrical/electronic eng. Mechanical Principles (20 credits) This module at both the design and analysis of both static and dynamic engineering systems. Research Methods & Study Skills 1 (10 credits) The module aims to develop your capacity to apply a range of academic skills appropriately within a chosen discipline. Learning in Action 1: Applying Skills & Competences (20 credits) This module aims to identify how to apply acquired knowledge, skills, concepts and theories gained. Learning in Action 2: Theory meets Practice L4 (10 credits) This module aims to develop your capacity to apply knowledge, skills, concepts and theories gained. Year 2 Advanced Computer Aided Design 3D CAD (10 credits) This module builds on the work done in the 2D CAD module to develop skills in 3D modelling. Business Improvement Techniques (10 credits) The module aims to highlight how engineering organisations use business improvement techniques to improve their overall performance. Computer Aided Manufacturing (10 credits) This module involves practical work in the programming and methodology of computer-aided machining (CAM) systems. Engineering Design (10 credits) The aim of this module is to effectively give you the opportunity to use standard industry based techniques to solve engineering based design problems. Inspection & Quality (10 credits) The module aims to highlight the standard techniques used to manage and provide the required levels of quality control, quality assurance to the required standards. Metrology (10 credits) This module looks at the processes of measurement and the various techniques used in order to maintain the required levels of quality in engineering production environment. Programmable Logic Controllers (10 credits) This unit has been designed to cover Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) concepts and their applications in engineering. Research Methods & Study Skills 2 (10 credits) The module aims to enhance your skills in academic writing and information research, introduce and apply a range of research methodologies and instruments and argue convincingly. Year 3 Learning in Action 1: Applying Skills & Competences (20 credits) This module aims to identify how to apply acquired knowledge, skills, concepts and theories gained. Learning in Action 2: Theory meets Practice L4 (10 credits) This module aims to develop your capacity to apply knowledge, skills, concepts and theories Learning in Action 3: Research in Action at Work (20 credits) This module aims to consolidate previously developed knowledge and skills in order to encourage the development of original, critical and independent thinking. Learning in Action 4: Personal Learning and Development (20 credits) The module aims to enable you to create a comprehensive and relevant personal enhancement plan by identifying a range of academic and specialist developmental needs.
