Type: Full Time Foundation Award in Caring for Children Full Time Length: 1 year Location: Darlington College Academic Year: 201011 CRB Check required Costs Course Overview If you have a caring and practical nature when being with children and young people, a childcare course could be for you. Working as an early years or childcare professional involves working with children and young people. Aim of this course This course will give you the basic knowledge and understanding of the main issues involved in caring for young children. You will learn about working with children and cover all aspects of the development and education of children from birth. Course modules Personal development Human growth and development Food and nutrition Health and safety practices in home and group settings Care of children Play and practical activities What are the entry requirements? No formal qualifications are required. All applicants will have an interview at the college and we will request a school or college report. You will need two references from people who are not related to you and a CRB Police Check. How will I learn? This course involves you attending college for approximately 24 hours per week, including: tutor led lectures, practical workshops, group work, tutorials and visits. You are expected to devote 6 hours per week in private study. Additional support is available to you if needed. You are given the opportunity to attend a trip for team building at the beginning of the programme, this is recommended for all. When will I be expected to be in college? You will attend college for approximately 24 hours per week. How will I be assessed? Examining body: CACHE You will be assessed through 7 unit portfolio assignments and one externally set MCQ exam paper. What if I need support? The college provides a safe and up-to-date working environment with many sources of information available in resource-based learning centres. Where possible, we will provide additional learning support as you need it and discuss your progress through tutorials. Further study If you achieve a distinction you may apply to move on to the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education Level 2. Career progression After progressing through the various levels that are needed you may be able to study a Foundation Degree in Early Years (Sector Endorsed). Alternatively you may want to progress on to a level 2 apprenticeship in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
