Full Time Forensic Science : Foundation Degree in Forensic Science Is this course for you? The course will appeal to those who have an interest in forensic science but who also want to have maximum flexibility in terms of career progression in science. The Foundation Degree is highly practical and as such provides a wide range of skills which are transferable and highly relevant to other areas of science. How long is the course? 2 Years When you will be attending. This full-time course will take up the equivalent of 3 full days attendance at College each week over 2 years. This contact time should be supplemented by private study. As a rough guide, when taking into account lectures, practical sessions, tutorials and private study, reading around the subject or preparing assignments, you would need to commit approximately 36 hours per week of your time to succeed. When does the course start? The course has now been validated by the University of Central Lancashire and starts in September What's the course about? The course uses forensic science to teach science and laboratory based skills in a vocational setting and aims to develop your communication skills, and practical and analytical skills. The course is made up of modules but essentially there are three main themes that run through the course - forensic biology, forensic chemistry and forensic practice forensic case work is embedded into these themes. Is work experience a necessary part of the course? The course is designed to reflect current workplace practices in forensic science. How will you be assessed? You must complete 12 modules over the two years. The assessment methods for the modules are different some will be by tests (including multiple choice questions), some by written assignments, laboratory reports, presentations or a combination of these. What qualification will you achieve? Foundation Degree in Forensic Science (validated by UCLan) What can this course lead to? Those successfully completing the Foundation Degree and the associated bridging modules will be eligible to progress to the third year of the BSc (Hons) Forensic Science Degree. The third year of this degree is available on both a full-time or part-time basis, daytimes only. The bridging modules are run over a three week period over the summer period, after you have completed the Foundation Degree. The Foundation Degree can also lead to direct employment in the science sector. How much will the course cost you? Entry Requirements Applicants will normally have studied science at either National DiplomaCertificate, Access to Higher Education or A-level. Applicants should have the equivalent of at least one full A-level in Science but your application will be considered if you can demonstrate a good general understanding of science and the ability to enjoy and benefit from degree level studies. We also look for alternative or professional qualifications, life experience, motivation and commitment. If you have been out of education for a while you may be given a key skills assessment so that we can determine any study needs to help and support you more effectively.
